I received a grey 1984 B2 2.8 manual tranny for free. Body is in pretty good shape. I have been lurking for a while trying to get this baby running. New cap, rotor, rebult the Carb. Problem is she pops through the carb pretty bad under a load, at idle shes great but under a load she pops bad. I have checked timing with the SPOUT disconnected about 10 times. Im sure she is timed right. The only thing I have not done is replace the plug wires. I have not checked compression, she does have a fair amount of power, can do 55 easy just pops really bad. Could buying plug wires really solve this problem? Its a toy for Alaska trails and Id love to have her running soon for the mud. If anyone could help that would be great. And thanks to everyone else's posts! they have really helped in the learning process!

Could be a lot of things - timing, leaking/burnt valve, carb mixture adjustment, etc. Are you using the factory carb and ignition stuff or was a Duraspark swap done?

Disconnect the battery and go through and connect all the sensors even the one in the filter housing make sure all the vacuum lines are correct. If you run the motor with any of the sensors disconnected it will run in limp mode the computer needs to be reset. clean all the connectors with elect cleaner and use dielectric grease to put them back together. You need to disconnect the battery for 1/2 an hour to reset the computer and run it for at least 20 minutes to reset the values. If that dont work and you dont need to pass emissions duraspark it. Do not waste your time trying to get the computer working!

But don't forget you need a non-feedback carburetor as well.
