i am finally Resurrecting the ranger, after two years as a lawn ornament.

I am almost finished, trying to crank the engine, but its not having it. With key "on" dash lights come on and everything works, but as soon as i turn key to "start" the solenoid clicks and everything dies.

I had to pull the motor to change the oil pan gasket and an exhaust manifold i'm wondering if i didn't hook the ground straps back up correctly, but i haven't been able to verify where exactly they go, the one picture i found in my chiltons manual makes no sense and the schematics are no help for location
also for some reason cant access the electrical section in the tech library

i have already replaced
battery
starter
switch to starter cable
cleaned terminal ends on battery cables

88 ranger STX 2.9L, mitsubishi 5spd manual, 4x4.

im about to bypass the clutch interlock and see if that helps anything but i doubt it since the relay seems to be kicking over fine. it just sounds like a bad ground or a bad battery connection right now,

SHE CRANKS!!!!, no start still, but it cranks, my neg battery terminal wasnt seating properly, once i got it tight it cranked over fine.

Now the fuel pump isnt kicking on, before, when i would turn the key "on" the pump would whine, but now, im not hearing it.

Might be from sitting..I hope nothing got in the pump and screwed it!

Are you not hearing anything from both pumps or just one? The HP pump is easy enough to hear (just under the driverside of the cab on the frame) and the other you can listen to if you take the gas cap off.

If nothing, Check the relay. Make sure it clicks and if it does, Make sure the voltage in is the same as the voltage going out.
