-my '89 has got to the point of running like crap. in the spring I put a new temp sensor and did plugs/wires/cap/rotor button. New gas filter just over a year ago. All seemed fine for a while. my son drove it for a couple weeks while his F150 was in the shop. now, you start it up, it runs fine until it warms up. then it's like it runs rich as it starts being hard to keep running. rev it up and she smokes black gas smelling smoke. and when driving if you let off the gas to stop or make a turn, it goes dead. I've started checking vacume lines and making sure everything is plugged in good(yeah, I've had that happen before) Anyone have some things to look for or check??? TIA....

Check your fuel pressure. Put a vacuum gauge on it and check if the cat is plugged. I think you can google what the vacuum gauge looks like when the exhaust is plugged.

May have found a little something today....the 4-way metal vacuume tee screwed in on the left side of the intake, the one where the FPR vacuum line attaches, it had one open tab and fuel was coming out fairly quick. If I plugged it off, the engine smoothed out, but does that mean that my FPR has a split diaphragm since fuel is coming out and into the intake??

Lead follow or get out of my way
If there is fuel in the vacuum line/port... the regulator is leaking and needs replaced.
