Does the 94 Ex's have a factory installed amp? If so where is it and how many amps was it? Mine has a 1/2 x 1/2 inch plug with 8 wires that are for the speakers and would like to know if that is just it or not.

The amp is mounted in the very rear passenger side under the side moulding right below the window & above the rear wheel well.

IT sounds like you have the factory "premium" sound audio system.

If the original deck in the '94 had all solenoid controls it's the premium
sound head unit

The NON-premium system had mechanical Fast Forward and Reverse controls
for the cassette deck.

If you want to install an afertmarket head unit there are two ways to do it.
One is that there is an aftermarket harness that connects the preamp outs of an aftermarket head unit and runs it throught the factlry amp.
the other is a short harness that's maber 8" long that you install in
the back to BYPASS the amplifier inputs to the amp outputs.
so your head unit is in essence (by a roundabout wire routing)
wired directly to the speakers
