I have a 99 4.0 ranger that I have recently done a m5od-r1 swap in. When I was getting parts for the swap I went ahead and got the ecu for the manual tranny as well.

I swapped out trannys, jumped the NSS and hooked up the clutch assembly etc etc... Then I swaped in the manual ecu.

The truck wouldn't start! After crossing my t's and dotting my I's I decided to swap the stock auto ecu back in it.

Truck fired right up!

NOW MY ISSUE.
Tranny is working like it should but I have this strange miss at low rpms after I shift gears. I have given the truck a tune up (oil, plugs, filters, wires) but it still happening.

Anyone here have some experience with this? I'm thinking I need to reprogram my stock ecu for the manual tranny. But any other thoughts would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks.

Does this truck have PATS? Did the truck the manual computer came out of have PATS?

I'm thinkin the same thing as exbass. Pats- Passive Anti-Theft System. You'd have to get the ecu programmed to accept that key chip. Or if you can get the wiring harness and key that match that ecu.

everything I bought for the swap came out of a 99 4.0 manual ranger. the same ranger as mine only manual. So it probably had pats like mine. I didn't think about the key. The truck turns over with the Manual ecu just doesn't fire.

A new harness from the for dealer is $500 and they'll only reprogram the ecu to the trucks vin. They won't modify it for a manual. Finding a used harness and ecu with a key is going to be ruff.

I called the ford dealer again. They said they will program my key to the Manual T. ECU for $130. I see it as a $130 risk I might just take.
