I have a friend that thinks he can get me a job driving trucks this summer. I am going tommorow to find out if i qualify for a temp CDL.

Any tips for the test/driving in general. I don't see any problems arising but this will be the first time I have driven something that big (Nearest is a 86 Chevy C30 with an 18ft car hauler)

You will need to go to a driving school for an 18 wheeler, Bro. They don't give out a temp CDL that I ever heard of. :icon_confused:

It is a seasonal cdl, you can only run locally. Pretty much exclusive to farming.

you don't need to go to school to drive an 18 wheeler. You do need somebody to learn you how to drive it.

temp CDL must just be for your state. My state does not have one, nor are you required to have a CDL for farming purposes.

you aren't required to have one here either, but the guy/company I am going to work for wants one (Make sure you aren't a total idiot) I didn't know they existed either, found nothing on the internet about it but when i went down and asked about it they knew what it was right away.

+1 you don't need to go to school, it is just the most used way of doing it. all you need to do is pass your written and driving test. Unfortunately for me the nearest driving test site is like 150miles away, so if i decide to go for full CDL I have to come up with a way to get a truck that far.

Yeah the only thing i see is getting use to the air brakes, then learning to use the splitter on the shifter. After that should be no problem. I have yet to find a truck/car i couldn't drive and i don't figure this will be any different. I don't think it is the driving I am really worried about, I think it is just new job jitters.

Any studying tips for the test?

the written test is the easy part.

you can't study for the skills test. Driving a truck is not as easy as you think, but its not as hard as alot of people make it out to be. The hard part is not driving forward, its backing up.

I'm not worried about the backing part, sure it takes practice but I am a cautious driver and I am used to backing blind anyways.

Fixed it :thefinger:

Lol quite a common way to say/write things in my part.
And asking "what fer truck you got" is common around here. That does NOT make it grammatically correct.
