If you do build your own there are a few things you have to bear in mind, the welds have to be fluid tight and the mounting face has to be flat. Not so simple as it sounds.
that's why in the original post, i mentioned that i'd get a local shop to laser cut the outer ring and bolt holes for me. all i'd have to do is trace an old diff cover onto the plate i'd wanna use and it would be flat. i can do 1/4" plate with my welder, so i dont think i'll have a problem keeping fluid in the diff.

i'm gonna put up some pics of what i'm thinking tomorrow when i get to work

everyone thinks they can make fluid tight welds 'not so easy as it sounds'. It will try to warp when you weld it, even if it's bolted down.

here's what i'm thinking. since i'm using 1/4" plate, i think having alot of angles on it may help make it a little more stout, but i dont know, just spit ballin here
