about to change my clutch slave for the third time in less than 10,000 miles. they are warrantiing them but the labor involved is what gets me. but on a good note, all the bolts have been recently removed so they wont be hard to get out. was told to try a more heavy duty fluid than dot 3 4 or 5 havent heard of such a thing before, or a necessaty for it. anyone have some wisdom?

Sounds like they keep giving you junk cylinders. Changing to a different fluid won't fix a bad cylinder, just costs you more money in the long run. Just get them to find you an OEM non-reman cylinder. Seems all these parts stores do is sell junk these days, if they can even manage to get you the right part in the first place. Changing fluid type isn't the fix, getting the idiots at the parts store to get a cylinder in that's not screwed up is the fix.

ya, that was my thoughts exactly. He said I still had to change the slave, but to add different fluid. Almost all the parts stores are selling reboxed china lost in translation parts. you cant buy hardly anything made in USA anymore, and if you do find it you pay 6 times what it worth. ranr rant rant.

Perhaps the local dealership could get you the right part.

I would just bite the bullet and get a Ford OEM slave. it won't be made in the US either, but it'll probably last a lot longer than a parts store slave. Changing the fluid TYPE isn't going to fix anything, but I've read a lot on this forum about people flushing out all the old DOT3 and putting fresh stuff in. Seems to help a lot. Brake fluid can get contaminated and nasty just like every other fluid.

I got my slave cylinder at carquest. The one before the new one was also from carquest and it lasted 120k miles.

well the first 2 were from autozone. I went with oriellys this time. So friday I take my truck to a friend from church professional shop. He let me use his drive on hoist and tranny jack. had it all apart in 75 minutes. put the new slave in, bolted the trans back up, then went to hook up the fluid line. no go, no matter what I tried no go. got to checking and the receipt says 94 ranger, not 90. called oriellys, sure enough, wrong part, off by 2 numbers. 45 minutes later they delivered the right one. And get this made in America. hour and half later all back together and bled. It even feels better, more positive, not firmer, just better. The good thing about doing it at friends shop, is if it fails again, I'll get reimbursed this time. Paid $62.00 for the new one and returned old one and was refunded $65.00

I don't think it matters where you go, all the parts are rebuilt junk anymore from Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Mexico, China, etc. Its all junk, you end up going through a dozen parts before you get one that lasts unfortunately, luckily they give some sort of warranty but if they had quality parts they shouldn't need a warranty, given the amount of money you spend to begin with, then the time and money in gas you spend running to the parts store a dozen times gets old really fast.
