I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to fix this. If I start the truck or I am in Accessory mode I can't leave park. If I go one notch above off I can shift the truck into neutral and start than go to reverse or drive or whatever. If I go back into park(say to get out and check the mail or something) I have to kill the engine and go back into neutral. This isn't a huge issue but is mildly annoying, If this is an easy fix I want to do it, if not, than I guess I got a pretty kickass theft prtevention :headbang:

Check if your brake lights are working.

Check for power at the brake light switch, also check if the switch is working. Could be a broken wire, broken switch or might even be just in need of adjustment.

If the switch is the issue will ford replace it for free under some kind of recall. I am just curious because my GMC canyon had a recall on the brake switch and the dealership replace it for free although it had yet to malfunction.

No, stop being a cheap skate and go spend the $25 for a new switch.

Right on kinda crappy though because the Taurus of the same year has a recall on the brake switch with the same part number. ****ing ford, at least they make decent cars right?

The Taurus also had a problem with the switches overheating and melting down both the switch and the connector. The Explorer did not. At least not to the same extent.

adsm you teach me so damn much lol.
Ok so I got a duralast brake switch from autozone and replaced it. The problem really is though, that the green wire is ripped out of the wire harness that the brake switch goes to. So I replaced the switch anyway and jammed the wire into the harness and have brake lights til the wire comes loose. I cant solder the wire because the damn harness is plastic so I gotta replace the whole harness. My question now is, does anyone know the technical name for that wire harness????

You should be able to get the pig tail (the trade name for the connector and a few inches of wire) for the brake switch for about $20 or $30.
