Hey guys!! Been looking on here for a while and I really enjoy all the build threads so I figured I'd post my own!! My plans for this truck are, 4.0 swap, m50 and BW 1354 swap, d35 and 8.8 swap, 4" suspension lift 33"? tires, refresh interior, new paint. I plan on using this as my DD/weekend camping/fishing/hunting/boating rig. Also, being that I will be moving into an apartment for school in August, all these modifications are gonna be done during my breaks, when I can get home to my garage to do stuff...
So a couple weeks after buying my my B2 it cracks a head (my fault for not checking the coolant before the 50 mile trip back home) I just figured whoever owned it would make sure it had coolant in it... Dumb mistake... anywho it gives me the chance to put in a 4.0, but I really don't have the funds to swap in an M50 right now. So, what I'm going to do is just ride the old FM146 for a while (or until it blows up) and save up the money to get a M50 for it. So far I've got the old 2.9 pulled and ready to go pick up my gently used 4.0 (79k miles, $400) I know the local salvage yard has radiator and all the other parts I need to make my 4.0 run (they tried selling me a 4.0 with almost 300k on it).
I have two questions.
1. What would be the best thing to do for my transmission so that it doesn't explode prematurely (I need it to last at least until the middle of October) I know to be easy and not beat on it, and it will probably only be driven 5-10 miles a week, then about 150 highway miles every other weekend to get home and back. Since the motor is out right now I already planned on replacing the throwout bearing, and maybe the slave cylinder... anything else I should do? I also have the clutch from a 4.0 to use on it...
2. What do ya'll recommend doing with the old 2.9. I want to get as much money out of it as possible... Should I part it out and sell whatever I can off of it, or would it be best just to sell it for scrap?
I'll have pictures up tomorrow morning...
Thanks for looking!!!
