Backup Wiring Help Please

Ok I feel totaly dumb. I've looked at lots of diagrams and can only make half sense on them. Can someone please give me a step by step instructions (in words not pictures) on how to do this?

What I want to do is, install two backup lights (tractor lights) using power from the battery with a fuse, a switch and a relay, seperate from my reverse circit. I know it must be very simple, I just over think things and confuse myself. Thanks

Ok. I would use either 16 or 14 AWG wire for this with a 20 amp fuse.

Mount your relay under the hood.

Run your 12v + wire from the battery with the inline fuse holder as close to the battery as possible. This wire will go to pin 30 on the relay.

Run your ground wire from pin 86 on the relay to a good chassis ground or directly back to the neg terminal on your battery

Run a wire from pin 85 on the relay to inside of your cab. This will go to your switch.

Inside the cab run a wire from ignition power source (fuse box or steering column harness will work) This wire will go to the other side of your switch. If you are using a lighted switch run the proper terminal to ground so the light will illuminate when the switch is on.

Now you will run your power wire to your lights from pin 87 on the relay, down along the frame and back to your lights. Protect the wire in loom and attach along the inside of the frame. Hook up your power wires on your lights to this wire and then ground your lights to the chassis.

Edit: If you want I can tell you how to make it work with the factory reverse light wiring as well. That is how mine are set up.

nice thing about a separate switch is you can use them without your vehicle being in reverse. i use mine when setting up camp, added light when working outside my garage at night, and saying 'hello' to to the guy on my a** with his brights on, to name just a few things. mine are mounted high up on the back of my topper.

Thats exactly why I want a separate switch, so I have a choice when to flick it. I'm going to flush mount them in a bumper I'm making.
