i had put new wires and plugs on my 4.0 and i tried starting it and it made a loud noise and the battery was dead, i then found that i wired the plugs wrong, so i re wired according to my manual and then i tried to start it and i found that the battery was completely dead, the next day(today) i cleaned the terminals and it started with help from a charger, i drove it around to charge it then i shut ir off and made an odd noise and it wouldnt start, tried jumping it and it wouldnt start either, is this a wiring problem or do i need a new battery?

Maybe both.

Remove both the battery cables and measure resistance from one to the other. If it isn't infinite or REALLY big, find the short to ground.

Rapid discharge of a lead-acid battery can break it.

If you don't have a battery clamp, get one. You can discharge the battery against the hood.

I know people don't like to hear this, but this is over your head. You need a shop. It's a very bad idea to try to learn the absolute basics of electronics while your truck is disabled in the driveway.

FAwkin POS , damn post didn't take and I lost the whoel thing cuz the damn window clears each time  !!!!

Mike was saying if you don't have a battery hold-down clamp, your battey could hit up against the hood and short out.

I think the problem is elsewhere. If you have a voltmeter, check to see if the battery has 12 volts on it. I don't see what would make noises though, unless you do have something in the cables shorting out or arcing under there
