For about a month know i've been getting this weird pause, skip, binding sensation when I go over bumps. It doesn't happen every time, maybe 1 time out of ten. The first time I noticed it, it was snowing and I had my hubs locked but not in 4WD as I was just going about a mile down the road. I thought maybe that was the reason so I unlocked the hubs and kept driving but it kept happening. It feels like it's coming from the rear of the truck and it's worse some times than others. The last time it happened it felt like my rear axle was going to rip right out. It's only for a split second and then everything is back to normal. I've tried everything to recreate it on my own like hitting bumps on purpose and letting off the gas and getting back on it hard. I've also checked my leaf springs, ubolts, and shackles. I put it up on a lift and shook everything down. Everything is tight and nothing seems to be broken. So my question is, has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any suggestions on what else to check would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

I checked the ujoints and bearing, and they seem to be fine. I replaced them not to long ago anyway. I know my diff has a little play in it but not much. What else should I check for in the rear diff?

By the way, did you ever cut those springs down? If so how did you make out?

yea i cut exactly one coil off, they are just about perfect, maybe still a hair too high. anyways, have you had the cover off the diff? if its an open diff, spin one wheel with the back end in the air, and the truck in gear. anything wrong with spider gears should be apparent. put it in neutral and spin both tires the same direction, anything in the r&p should show up. have you checked the slip joint for play or greased it?

Good, I'm glad you made them work.

I haven't had the cover off but while I had it up on the lift I spun the tires and didn't notice anything off. I haven't checked the slip joint, actually I never even thought of that. I'll give it a look see tomorrow.
