It's a 2001 2wd Edge. Replaced the rotors, pads, calipers and caliper brackets. The ABS sensor came on after the new parts were installed and a few miles were put on so we pulled the rotor off to check it out. This is when we discovered that the pads are wearing on the very top on the outside and the very bottom on the inside.

It's hard to see in the pics but the first one is tight at the top and loose at the bottom and in the second picture you can see there is a gap between the pad and the rotor at the top.

When the brake is appiled it looks as if the caliper assembly is rotating up, causing the uneven wearing of the pads. Now the brake pedal goes right to the floor but the brakes were bleed and we did them again to make sure. Could it be that the master cylinder is shot, and that there's not enough pressure to push the pads evenly to the rotor?

I'd say the pads are under warranty, and you can get free replacements in case they are faulty. that'd be the cheapest place to start.

Oh crap, just read that your brake pedal is hitting floor. If It was the master cylinder, the fluid still had to be going somewhere (there should be a leak somewhere)

I worked in a brake caliper factory for a while, they can get sloppy, but usually they will leak around the rubber boot.

Also check your mounting brackets against the other side, make sure nothing is bent, or incorrect.
I'd check the other calipers for leaks.

If you come up empty handed it's time to shell out the 35 bucks for a new one.

It seems like there is something loose on the caliper. Check to see if the bracket holding the caliper is loose. If thats fine check the pins holding the caliper to the bracket. Make sure those holes arent worn out causing movement. The only way that caliper should move is in and out, not up or down. Also be sure you grease those bolts, or pins, that the caliper slides on.

Well after some researching we found the problem. The parts store gave us the wrong calipers. They bolted in fine but they were missing some grooves in the top of the caliper for the pads to sit in so they were binding up. The parts store insisted they were the right ones because the part numbers matched but they were obviously different. I got a part number off RockAuto and he cross referenced it and found the proper calipers. She's got a stiff brake pedal now :icon_cheers:

(believe it or not the mistakes are easy to make)

we had to cross reference and cross reference when shipping parts (some had different style vents... some a different bleeder valve)

I don't think there is any excuse for an improper caliper to make it to the store shelves though!!!!!

If your calipers have two pistons and one is hanging up slightly it could cause uneven wear and the calipers would need replaced. Also if the rotor isn't in the best condition the leading edge of the brake pads would wear down more.
