I sold my CoolerMaster HAF 932 build so it was time to build another one.

Specs:
- CoolerMaster Storm Scout case
- Gigabyte motherboard
- AMD Phenom II x2 3.1GHz processor
- 4GB DDR3 1666MHz RAM
- 2x 500GB Hard drive
- BFG GeForce 9600GT Graphics card
- CoolerMaster V8 CPU cooler
- Sony DVD/RW drive
- Zalman 6x fan controller

I need to get 2 more fans to update the fans that are in the case from the factory.

The pictures are in order of the build.

Case Fresh out of the box:

Motherboard mounted inside the case:

4GB DDR3 1666MHz RAM installed:

AMD Phenom II x2 Processor Installed:

OCZ 600 watt power supply installed: (will be upgrading to an 800 watt and sending this one back)

BFG GeForce 9600GT Installed:

Me putting the CoolerMaster V8 CPU Cooler on:

Finished w/ Windows XP Pro installed: (Awaiting Windows 7 to be released)

So far it is running awesome. It took me a little longer to build this one because of the smaller case and my desire for it to be neat and clean on the inside.

Without the operating system (I have a builders license for XP Pro and Vista Ultimate), software (ie: Microsoft Office Pro 2007), and time building, it was right at $700.

It works fine so far. This is my second Gigabyte mother board and I really like them. It is a GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P.

It helps that I have a business account with Newegg and Tigerdirect. This is the 6th PC that I have built this year; 5 for other people. Once I add the operating system (XP Pro or Vista Ultimate) and Microsoft Office Pro 2007, the cost bumps up to around $900, which is the price if someone wanted this exact PC built for them.

I overclocked the CPU this weekend. It is stable at 3.5GHz on air running Windows 7 RC. I tried up to 4GHz, but it wasn't stable at all.

With it overclocked to 3.5GHz and with air cooling, the CPU stays right at 75* F (23* C). That is after playing COD on max settings for over 2 hours.

I also added a larger CFM fan to in front of the hard drives. I moved the fan controller to above the DVD/CD burner and put a fan in the empty expansion slots under the DVD/CD burner. The fan under the DVD/CD burner draws air straight into the CPU cooler. I am sucking in about 300 CFM and blowing out about 175 CFM.

I had to swap out the power supply. The OCZ power supply wasn't putting out what it was supposed to. I got a Cooler Master power supply that puts out 600w continuous and 750w max. It is quieter and runs more efficient than the OCZ.

After using the DDR3 RAM for a week, I wont ever use DDR2 again. The 1666MHz RAM is FAST! The response from the RAM is awesome.

I need to benchmark this thing and see what numbers it comes up with.

That thing is beast! Why did you get a Phenom II instead of an i7? Better value?

Thanks.

I went with a Phenom II over an i7 for a few reasons.

1. Cost
2. Gaming experience with AMD
3. Overclocking experience with AMD
4. Reliability

The AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2GHz AM3 Black Edition (which I had in my last system) is $215. The comparable Intel i7 965 3.2GHz Extreme Edition is $989. That is a $774 difference for a processor that is just as good.

My last system with the Phenom II x4, I built for almost $250 less than the i7 processor itself (I built it for about $800, my cost).

When I had my last system with the Phenom II x4 running, I built a buddy a PC just like mine only with the comparable i7. Mine had better benchmarks than his machine had.

I went with the Phenom II x2 this time because this was a budget build for high power. I wound up spending more on it than I had budgeted. I don't need anything larger than a dual core CPU right now anyways.

I have the Phenom II 940 3.0 GHZ and it runs like a dream and easily overclocked! i have it running at 3.8ghz with a Tuniq Tower 120 but it ran stable at 4ghz but it got alittle too hot for my liking
