Can anyone tell me what that black wire goes too? I know where it should plug in at but what does it give power or ground too?

If i read the diagram right its an ignition ground....that runs to the TFI.....possibly why this thing acts like its pig rich and barely running? Not a good spark?

Same for the blue fuseable link. Whats it run to?

Drivers side over by the ignition coil....well in that vicinity.

I found a wireing diagram online but im not really good at reading them things.

I looked on rusty #1 to figure out where they need reconnected...but i ran out of time today.

Im more curious what it runs to. Guess tomorrow or tuesday ill get them hooked back up and see what happens.

How do you get the bullet connectors out of the plug? Push in that red tab?

OK, get more zeroed in on what you need as far as scematics and component views from the EVTM, and I can post what you're needing.

There is a part to the connector called a "wedge" which is pried out from the connector "face" side. Then you'll see fingers inside the connector that lock the terminals in; carefully pry back on those with a pick tool, and pull on the wire to pull the terminal out of the back, or "inserion" side the connector,

I've seen white and red wedges.

Be careful, but be forwarned that the old plastics will be brittle as shit. Just be as careful as you can.

See the pics for how it's done.

Good Luck, Sparky!

Well i fixed 3 wires in that fender harness. Harvested wires off of rusty #1, spliced them in, and it did run better. Not great...hut better.

In the process of digging out the EEC test wires i found this....

20240422_111709.jpg

Thats the coolant temp sensor plug. The strands of wire? Yeah thats the green wire that i believe is signal. Its totally wasted. We might have a winner. The one on rusty #1 wasnt much better so im going to have to find one in a junkyard. Do you know if the 4.0 uses the same plug?

I also found the solenoid to starter wire was barely bolted to the solenoid...and the battery cable on the positive was had split insulation and the terminal was cracking. So im out getting one of those now.

I don't know; sorry.

I think that it's time well spent doing what you're doing, in going through the wiring and fixing things where needed.

These are simply old trucks, and wiring repairs are just part of the fun (yeah, right . . . ).

I went to crapa to get a new cable and they actually could order a new pigtail. 18 bucks but it saves hassle of junkyard scrounging.

Thats where i messed up on my ranger, i was so overwhelmed with EFI (it was the first EFI ressurection i did) i spent alot of money on parts i probably didnt need. Then i did that cobalt (barf) and took a more methodical approach. I might learn this EFI shit yet lol

After this is done really only major thing left is brakes (pedals very soft, it has new lines, i dont think whoever did it bothered bleeding them), then a pretty large rust issue in the back corner. But more on that later. Its definantly fixable....but by me? I dont know lol. Might need to call in backup on that one.

Well, if you can figure it out, then I'll have to try it myself.

A while back RockAuto had a lot of the Ford wiring repair pigtails on closeout sale; I don't know if they still have any or not.

Repair pigtails are the way to go, but damn they're expensive!

Pre 95 trucks use the same coolant temp plug, going back to 85 or so. I bet most Ford vehicles from that era use the same sensor.

You were correct. I went to the u-pull and grabbed two of them...one off an 90 460 and another off a 95 3.0 (i know...blasphemy pulling 3.0 parts for a 2.9)...

Either way....both were exactly the same.

Best part of all the old man that runs the yard gave em' to me free.

Going out tomorrow and splicing it on...and installing the new battery cable. Maybe ill get to drive it more then 50 feet.

SHAME ON YOU! Go stand in the corner.
To be fair it was a 3rd gen 4wd so i just assumed it was a 4.0 untill i popped the hood...that and the fact its in the junkyard donateing parts to a still living 2.9 both say volumes:ROFLMAO:

Ill pry end up using the 460 one...i could get it cut back longer on the harness...even though on the 3.0 one i saved both clips lol
