C-clip eliminator mod for front axle.

I worked on this today. The spring was cheap, but it was a real bugger to get over the D35 spline. It's on now though and ready to go in.

If you guys try this, make sure you wear a glove on the hand opposite the tool you are trying to use. I took a small chunk out of my left index finger. Also, it doesn't hurt to use a little silicone spray on the rubber boot. It will help it last a little longer and keep it flexible.

Synthetic wheel bearing grease is okay for the spline, right?

Use a Moly "extreme-pressure" grease (CV joint grease) on the slip-spline.

The C clip, which is actually an E clip, holds the passenger side axle shaft into the diff on the Dana 28 and 35 TTB axles. If you want to be able to change the u-joints or axle shafts without dropping the pig completely, then the eliminator spring is the way to go.

Gotcha...yeah....I mean....E-clips are what hold my CV's in the diff...just one hard yank and the CV's are out of the diff housing.

Do you use the same grease on the locking hubs and inner spindle bearing?

Yea, the hubs only need a very light coat of grease.

I picked up some grease today. One store in town had it that wasn't a part of a cv boot kit. Anyway, it wasn't the color i was expecting; a real light blue-greenish. It says it's CV joint grease though. I always thought CV joint grease was black or something.

If it's molybdenum grease, it's what you want for the spline. Do NOT use that grease on roller bearings though, the moly tends to shorten their life (it's made for sliding surfaces that move back & forth in a linear motion). Use a standard lithium-base bearing grease for the bearings (sometimes called "Hi-Temp disc brake wheelbearing grease").

Okay, the aqua blue grease i bought was made by Precision Universal Joints. I bought it at Menzer Auto Parts here in town. I can't find out what's in it at all, but judging from the looks and feel of it, it's lithium based. The guy at the counter didn't even know what was in it. It was a 4 oz. packet that came in a universal joint box with no description or writing whatsoever. I do have some red moly grease now though, and i'll have some of tomorrow to be able to work on it. School and work have been nuts.
