my 99 3.0 clutch finally gave up. The pedal just pushes to the floor. The entire clutch system suffered many years of neglect as I never even looked for the fluid reservoir until it stopped working today. The reservoir was empty so I filled and flushed it. The fluid in the system was very black. It's still 'not working' and seems like the master cylinder but how can I tell if the slave also needs to be replaced? Work has been slow and I need to fix this on the smallest budget possible so if anyone knows of an economical rebuild solution I'm all ears.

find the leak. probably the slave cyl.

the slave will leak and leave fluid under the transmission coming from between the engine and trans.

the master will leak down the firewall or into the cab by your feet
