two questions:

my clutch is slipping when cold and probally not long for this world. i am considering replacing it and wanted to know how long this should take??
its a 88 2.9 4wd ranger with 84k or 184k milage

i am using alot of oil but not seeing any smoke or oil on the ground. driving 130 miles a day with this. I was wanting opinions on whether a leaking rear main seal would leave puddles or whether nthe clutch would burn up and leakage if it was steady???? sho7uld i replace the reart main while doing the clutch and is it easy enough to do???

using about 1-2 qt a tank of fuel
thanks

If the seal isn't leaving puddles I'd leave it alone!! Messing with a rear main seal that is doing fine is just asking for troubles.
I'd guess the oil use is from the valve seals.

as for the clutch if everything goes smooth you should be able to due the clutch no problem in a day and no the rear main is easy to do and i would replace, might as well if you are in there anyways.and to tell if the rear main is leaking your clutch pack will probably covered in oil as well as the inside of your bell housing...and as for the oil leak im not really sure, could be leaking it somewhere where it just gets burt off on the block or exhaust which would make it not blow smoke out the pipe or leave any oil on the ground..just my two cents.

1-2 Quarts is a LOT of oil consumption, even for your driving habits. I drive my ranger 80 miles a day, and I'm using about a quart every month or two (2000 miles or so, give or take). I would definitely look into that leak if I were you. If you aren't seeing puddles, it's getting burnt somewhere.
