So I have a 86/88 ford ranger that I was thinking about wiring some accessories up but I may have a good idea. I'm looking for opinions and possibilities of it working as well as a couple of questions answered.

So I have replaced all the wires in my truck. The donor I got them from had dual tanks and mine doesn't. So the trim has the slot for the dual tanks but the space looks empty without the switch. I cut the old connector off the old wiring harness to possibly wire some accessories. It looks like the connector has 5 power wires 2 are when the switch is switched to the left and 2 are switched to right. And one being main power to entire switch. And finally one ground. The power wires are red, brown/white. The red wire goes to tank selector switch and the brown/white one goes to tank selector valve. There are 2 each I those color wires for which side the switch is switched to. The main power is pink/ black. And ground is black. With the way I am looking at it is I have 4 accessories I could run but they wouldn't run all at the same time. 2 when the switched is turned to left and two to right.

So my question is if I put the switch in the middle, would power to all accessories be cut off or would two of them still be on? And if no one can answer these questions I guess I'm going to find out. Just didn't want to waste time if anyone had tried this already.

One more thing. No I wouldn't have it connected to the main harness. I would wire everything like it says to in the info technical write up under wiring accessories properly just the selector switch would be my switch.

So I got to looking and testing. I can run only 2 accessories with the switch. It doesn't have a designated neutral/off switch but if you put switch dead center there isn't any power to any wires. So I guess I answered my own questions. Now I just have to put it to use.

What kind of accessories are you thinking about running with this setup?

Relays will be your friend on this...
Or you can use it to control only one accessory. Cap the other wire

Danger: I think I see what you're saying about having a dual tank set up. What I'd like to know is if the system has a manual valve for the fuel lines or solenoid valves.

If manual, one wire will go to the in-tank fuel pump and the other to the gauge sending unit.

If solenoid, the one wire to the fuel pump will split into two, one for the solenoid and the other for the pump.

Yes, I may not have the degree, but I am a rocket scientist.

I have the visor lights I was going to run or maybe some off road lights. I also thought about using it to power a secondary fuse panel to run many things. I haven't quite figured out what I want to do just was trying to come up with some ideas to use it so there isn't the slot in the trim.

Gentle I'm not not actually using it for the fuel pumps just use the switch for accessories. I will try to post pics if y'all would like.
