ok so my 9" doesnt have a tag but seeing as the gears have numbers i decided to take a look... come to find out it has been sitting for so long that is just happens to be rusted RIGHT over the ratio numbers... UGH

now my d44 came with a tag the tag reads:

3 54 D6TA AJD
603780 3

i think its safe to assume it has 3.54 gears but im not sure, and the ring gear does not have any numbers on it

anyone know how i could figure out the gear ratio without the numbers?

i just want to make sure they match before i through them under the truck

thanks

divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion, that number will be the ratio

If the Dana is a 3.54, there is probably a number such as "39-11" stamped along the edge of the ring. That's the ring & pinion tooth count for 3.54 gears.

The matching 9 likely has 3.50 gears.

will that mess up the transfer case if the gears are that small amount of difference?

No, up to about .05 difference is fine (differences in amount of tire wear front-to-rear can often equate to more than that). After all, it did come from Ford that way.
