D44 nondisconnect?

D44 questions for SAS

So I found this D44 out of a 89 Wagoneer that I'm looking to pickup. It says that it's nondisconnect.. I have no idea if this will work on my rig.

I also found another out of a 90 Wagoneer that says it's w/o vacuum disconnect.

I have a BW1354 in the truck that I would like to make manual at some point but it's currently electric, though with a missing motor.

So I am told that my Ranger doesn't have a vac disc, which explains why I've never heard of it. So if I look for anything that is nondisconnect or w/o vac disc, this will work, correct?

Agree/disagree? Explain? :icon_confused:

The waggy 44's for those years will work. Prior to '79 they were pass drop. The vacuum disconnect is similar to locking hubs kinda. The pass side axleshaft is 2 pieces and the vacuum connects them together to engage driving power to that wheel, the drivers side is always connected and turning the diff and driveshaft. Im not sure but the non vac/connect ones should have locking hubs.

the waggy axles without vacuum disconnect are the desirable ones for your SAS, except that they are six-lug, but that can be changed easily.

that's what I'm running in mine

You have an electric bw1354 with no motor - are you shifting it by hand?

Well... I don't actually drive it, much less wheel with it right now.. I could, in theory, use pliers, but one of my manual hubs is busted so that would defeat the purpose.. Might be picking up a manual within the next week or 2 though.

The 90 Waggy axle fell through, I misread the add and it was actually out of a 90 Cherokee but it would fit a 90 Waggy.. I'm pretty sure those are D30s though, the add didn't say what axle it was. (Was a local salvage shop)

The 89, I'm still waiting on the guy to get back to me.

Do you guys know what the width of a Ford 9" out of a 67-72 f100 is? I tried Googling and found conflicting answers.. One site said it was 61.5", another said it was 57".. That's a big difference.. I found a couple that I can get, cheap and complete.

i believe it would be the standard full size width, what ever that is... the f-100 is essentially an f-150 with a few differences


where have you been hiding? i haven't seen you post for a while

Even though in the mid-70s the f100 was renamed the Ranger f100 and from that came the Ranger?

Some members and I have some differences, best to just avoid the conflict. But thanks for noticing.. Lol

i don't know about the ranger f-100's but the ranger f-150 was a camper package, iirc, it was the belly bars for a camper, and the power lines and everything all run for it...

Rather than starting a new thread.. Maybe I can just ask my question real quick here..

89 and 90 Jeep Grand Wagoneers. Are they both D44s w/o vac disc on the front? What's in the back?

The rear axle on wagoneers is a Dana 44 with drums. I think the width wms to wms is 60.5 inches. 2 inches wider than a ranger (93+)

Thanks Kirk.. My rear axle is an 8.8 out of a 93 Explorer.. So TRS tells me the size is 59.5 which is dangerously close (for my purposes) to a 60.5.

:)
