Since the prerunner section does not get much traffic, I will periodically add updates to this thread. For a more complete write-up please see my build thread in the prerunner section.
Quick facts:
1999 Ford Explorer XLT 4X4 4.0 SOHC
199,200 miles on original motor and transmission
Replacing stock suspension with long travel parts off of my deceased Ranger
-Dixon Brother's Racing Long Travel Kit (14" travel)
-Giant Motorsports 64" Leaf Spring Kit (18"+ travel)
-8" remote reservoir coil over shocks and hydraulic bump stops (front) - Possible addition of a double bypass shock
-16" piggy back triple bypass shocks (rear)
-Fiberwerx 7" bedsides and Fiberwerx 6" front fenders
-35" BFG AT KO's on 17" wheels
A couple of pictures from yesterday.
Using the Giant (Ranger) front spring hanger. The top half of the hanger is cut off to allow for placement. There is enough offset between the frame and the hanger to allow for a nut on the back side of the hanger.
Using the Giant (Ranger) drop shackle mounts. Located near the end of the Explorer frame. Note the spacer placed under the frame to allow the shackle to clear the hatch:
Getting ready to cut sheet metal (should begin tomorrow). At this point, we still have 3"-4" of bump travel before we hit the frame and an estimated 6" before the leafs flatten out. We will likely notch the frame a couple of inches to increase bump travel. How much will be determined once we trim the body.
