In my 2001 4.0 4x4 Extracab many things weren't working and I discovered that fuse #26 was missing. I put one in and the door ringer started in and suddenly the speedometer began to work. The other thing us the air bag light went out and the Door Ajar light came on. I've opened and closed all of the doors and it stays on. The dome light also doesn't work with either the door or the dash switch. I got another GEM module in the mail today and will try that tomorrow to see what that does ..

I know on the big trucks, they started putting the switch in the door lock mechanism itself. A lot of them were fixed by taking wd40 and drowning the door latch while you work it.

Yeah the problem is more likely with the door switch than the GEM (previous owner probably pulled the bulbs out of the lamp or somehow disabled it because of this).

As said, WD-40 can make a quick temporary fix, but getting in there and actually cleaning the latch switch should make for a longer-lasting fix (or you can just replace the switch too).

Wiring that works can be as elusive as it gets. I never studied it much, I tinkered with it tho. I was a mechanic in a Hertz Penske truck rental licensee for AR and OK in the 80s and got put on installing their trip masters quite a bit, and it was simple work.
Tracking down problems, finding them, and sorting them out is a whole nuther beast, and I do wish you well with it sir.
A couple things I might recommend is don't gamble or guess, make sure it's right before you leave it there
