Im trying to figure out if i have to remove my entire steering column in order to fix the ignition switch and actuator pin. It has a drill whole all the way down the ignition keyway and the turning gear inside the key ignition is gone. I'll send a pic along with it, I'm not a very experienced mechanic so u don't want to have to pull the entire steering column out if anyone at all can help please respond back ty

If you can put the key cylinder in the run position you should be able to remove it and install a new one.

You can replace the gear and cylinder as long as the part the cylinder slides into is OK
If "they" messed up the cylinders mounting hole then yes, another column from wrecking yard, not sure there will be "new" parts

Thanks i appreciate it I've bought from them before but i have 3 other rangers as well and one Is just for parts. I'll just have to do it myself and that one is something i have never attempted, but it don't look all that easy thank you so much for your help!

My credo
I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
The easiest/quickest way I’ve found to remove an ignition switch without the key:

Take a big, old school Craftsman screwdriver with the square shank and hammer it into the lock. Take a big adjustable wrench and force it to turn to the run position.
Push in the release pin and remove the lock cylinder.

That looks pretty bad. Someone attack your Ranger?
