The intank fuel pump on my truck is starting to get a little noisy, so I'm thinking it will have to be changed out soon. That got me wondering what it takes to convert to a single in tank pump and ditch the dual setup. I know folks on hear have done this. Is it as simple as getting a drop in pump/sender from a 90 and up Ranger and getting some fittings to remove the frame mounted pump? Or is there more stuff involved? If anybody has done this let me know what is all involved. A little background on the truck it's an '87 2.9.

Thanks

i just put a 90 mustang pump in the sender...takes a little fanagling but its simple.

or you can just bypass the pump in the tank and run the rail pump, but that can cause starvation issues with a bigger powerplant, and you need to pressure up the tank a lil if you run out of gas.

After a bit more searching I think that might be what I'm doing. Putting a high pressure pump in the sender mount that's already there and just bypassing the frame mounted pump. You didn't have to change any wiring did you?

I've done this conversion before with no other added parts then the sender unit with pump from a second gen ranger and some fuel line to fill the space when you take the in line pump out. Check the 2.9 section and you'll find all the details posted.
