If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
how can you tell if its 95 or 135? will it be stamped on the case somewhere? my ranger seems to have most of the options for the year except fog lights. its got some goodies that i dont see on alot of rangers (keyless entry/factory alarm, premium sound stereo)

read that thread, I know that FSB is a PIA to navigate and they have 15 page threads telling somebody to search instead of actually answering the question but when you search for the answer all you find is threads telling you to search for the answer..........

the case for a 130A 3G will be approx 1/2 inch bigger dia than a 95A 3G.

If your stereo is making the lights dim, it's time for a capacitor.
yep..... and a bigger battery and a bigger alternator..........

Seems like he's already on that. I just noticed he left out the part that would limit those power surges.

From my personal junkyard polling most explorers DO NOT come with 135's

There is no 135, there is however a 130Amp.

Infact 91 and most 92's CANNOT take a 130 without retrofitting the alternator subharness from a '93-94.

And even very, very few '93-94's have 130's.

the 95 and 130 look very similar, but are physically a different size
if you see the two side-by-side they are easily identified by the
average guy, but there are othervisual clues...

The 130has a smaller pulley
the 130A "fills" the alternator bracket more than the 95 does.
The 130 has a smaller bevel angle between the front of the
case and it's diameter.

Personally I run a 130 on my '93 4.0, why? because I can.
but on a truck that originally came from the factory with
a 45amp alt?

no thanks, ill try a decent second battery like a powermaster d3100 or Northstar 125, but i would never waste money on a cap again. Not trying to start a capacitor arguement but i wont use them personally.

yeah allan is right..... you need to upgrade your charge cable to use a 130a........ you need to read that thread and the related tech article....

whats your issue with a capacitor..... I have never used one but I have never had a system that needed one.

there used as a patch to fix the dim issue, but i rarely see someone install one correctly.

there designed to store power till the amp needs it. but if your system cant feed your amp now; after the first few bass hits how can it feed the cap, to feed the amp?

to use a cap correctly you first have to upgrade your wires, alt, battery, theennnn ad a cap if it is still needed

i had 0ga from ALT+>BAT+,Alt bracket to BAT-, and firewall>BAT- on my marquis with the 130a, so i would do the same to this. i planned on just doing the big 3 with the stock alt to see if it helps having the low resistance 0ga, but then i saw this thread and i thought i might pick up an explorer alt and do the swap at the same time.

if i was having the dimming on the quick choppy bass hits maybe a cap would help but i have dimming issues mostly while playing songs with long, low, boomy bass lines if i try to go full tilt for too long while idling.

the alternator subharness for the 95Amp alt has a single
fat fuseable link built into it, the same harness made for
the 130amp has an obvious double wire (TWO parallel fuseable links)
between the eye terminal and the heat shrink coated splice.

A BIG battery a BIG alternator and a capacitor all do different jobs.

a capacitor to work correctly needs to be installed as close to the
stereo headunit (or external amp) as possible.
the point is having a huge reservoir (battery) a huge river feeding it
(an alternator) doesn't help you get more water out of your garden
hose nozzle.

the thing about caps is because they store electricity electrostatically
they can react to a spike in power demand in microseconds, thousands
of times faster than a battery or alternator.
But if you are getting a light dimming problem you need a bigger battery,
a bigger alternator or BOTH and the cap probably won't hurt.
