I have a 2004 Ranger FX4. It has a stinking prop rod to hold the hood up. Has anyone ever tried fitting Explorer hood hinges on a Ranger? They have short gas struts that hold the hood up. I know there are retrofit kits out there to deal with this but I think this would be a cleaner looking setup and the lift cylinders wouldn't be in the way. The Explorer and Sporttrac hinges mount using four bolts instead of two and there are some other differences but they just might work. My biggest worry is whether the hood is strong enough around the hinge mounts. If anybody has tried this modification I would appreciate some input.
