I'm wanting to buy a new set of Firestone Destination AT's for my 4x4, does anyone else have these with the 4.0 engine? Right now I have 235/75-15 Goodyear Wrangler Radials and I'm wanting to get 31's. How much mpg will I lose going from a 235/75 to a 31/10.50? Also, will the less aggressive tread on the Firestone's will be better for gas mileage than the BFG AT KO's?

Before anyone says "Go with the BFG's!", the $260 some dollar price difference is a big thing for me right now. Plus, I'm guessing it's because of the large tread, but the BFG's I have on my 2wd seem to wander on the road a bit.

Oh yeah, anyone have any pics of the Firestone Destination AT's on their Rangers? (reg cab flareside if you got em) :)

what gears are in the truck? when i had my 94 4x4 with 4.0 i ran 31's with 373 gears and i could get 20mpg and i had an aggressive driving style im sure many on here with the same set up and a more mild driving style could get a few more out of it. the 31's just looked better filled up the wheel wells.

3.73...

What was the stock tire size on your 94? How much loss of power (take off, etc) did you notice after you put the 31's on? On my 2wd, the difference was pretty big, so I ended up replacing the 3.73 gears with 4.56's.

If I go with 31's on my 4x4, I'd like to not have to change the gears for a while. Basically if I'm going to have a big change in the way it drives, I may wait until tax time and have the gears changed out and get tires all at once. But if there is not that much (noticeable) difference from 235/75-15's to 31/10.50's then I may get tires now and re-gear later.

I just recently got around to replacing the odometer worm gear and finally can check my mpg's. When I drive sensible, I'm getting around 19.5 mpg's mixed driving. If I lose a mile per gallon that's not a big deal, but with the 4.0, I'd rather not get crappy gas mileage just so I can have 31's. So 31's, more specifically, the Firestone Destination AT's 31's shouldn't make my gas mileage way worse?

stock mine came with 265/75/15 which is the same as a 31/10.50 but i always put 31's on it. Never had and problems with power loss as i said i was able to get 20 mpg's 400 miles to a tank of gas out the 4.0 4x4 with an aggressive driving style.

You kept pretty much the same size tire though... I'm going from a 235/75-15 to 31's. Not a HUGE difference in size, but they are definitely bigger tires. Plus, I have 3.73 gears, and you probably have 4.10's, right?

The door sticker says 235/75-15.

I actually decided against the Firestone's and got me a set of 31/10.50-15 Goodyear Duratracs today (well yesterday, now...) I noticed a little power loss, but not much. I'll probably post on them in the review section when I get time.

Thanks... :)

I still have plenty of power, I just wondered how much I would lose... :) When I first got 31s for my 2wd ranger, take off and having to drive in 4th gear most of the time on the highway was the only down sides. With that truck, the stock tire was 225/70-14 with 3.73 gears. I am a lot happier with my 2wd and 31 combo since I have upgraded to 4.56 gears...

Come tax time I will probably upgrade the gears in my 4x4 as well...
