FM 145 to M50D

im swapping my fm 145 in my 87 ranger to a exploder m50d that was behind a 4.0L ive been searching fore a few days, but kinda confusing on what ive read. do i have to use a 4.0l clutch/starter and that stuff or will my 2.9 stuff work? thanks for any help

you should be fine with the 2.9 stuff, but since you have to take everything out you mine as well swap the clutch over to the 4.0 clutch, it is a bigger clutch.

personally i would swap over to the 4.0 clutch/starter but its your truck

You will be forced to use atleast the clutch slave cylinder AND the clutch line.

while you COULD use your 2.9 stuff you'd be far better off using the 4.0 stuff.

Going to the 4.0 starter is worth it alone but the heavier flywheel
and bigger clutch just make the 2.9 feel like it's got an extra cylinder.

You COULD relocate your tranmission crossmember to the REAR set of holes (that are already in your frame) but again you would be better off removing the brackets for your current style crossmember and swapping in the explorer crossmember.
To do this you need only drill ONE hole in the bottom flange of the
drivers side frame rail....

Oops... I forgot, you have an '87 so your high pressure fuel pump is kinda
in the way of doing that...

yeah im swapping the clutch line to the 4.ol one and ive already moved the mounts on the frame back. hmm maybe if some moeny comes in i'll be letting the tranny sit under the truck till i get that 4.0l clutch.
