Honestly, I would say just buy something more practical in a common caliber that the United States, and/or potential enemies (such as N. Korea) use... so... 5.56 or 7.62x39...

Just my 2 cents. However, if you're set on a .50, get the bolt action, and use the rest of the money for ammunition and other supplies. Rounds for those things are expensive, and you'll want to get into reloading the shells yourself just to save money.

I don't hunt but I did used to be involved in long range competitions. I would like to be again.

I personally would go the route of the Barrett M82 or M107, but that's me. Very pricey indeed, but that's because they're semi auto and built like tanks, and in high demand by the military. You could always try and find a used one with a scope and all the accessories already for a little less in price too...that'll help the wallet a bit.

For a bolt gun, I've always been fond of the Armalite AR50. Single shot, not clip fed like the Bushmaster, but that isn't a big deal. I'm not sure about the Bushmaster really, not in .50 bmg anyways, but I know they make good guns.

But you're comparing two different animals, both in price, and function. Is the semi auto option worth twice the price of the bolt Bushmaster? That's you're call. Personally, I'll take the Barrett.

And yes, .50 bmg can be found for a little over $1 a round, so that's not bad at all considering some deer rifle cartridges are more expensive. Though most places that sell it are much higher than that.

If you want something in .50BMG that will stand out at the range look around for a Boys Anti-Tank Rifle rechambered to .50BMG. Cost will be about half of that of a new Barrett and should include all the accessories like the tripod and tansit case.

It hurts a bunch....it's worse than rapid-firing a 12 gauge shotgun at a squirell in the top of a 50 foot tall tree.....and you're deaf for 2 days !!!

Lol, Ahhh yes. I'm one of those guys that frequently calls a magazine a clip. It comes from when I was little and playing video games (doom and the first resident evil come to mind) where you'd pick up a spare "clip" even though it was a "magazine". It's hard to break that habbit of calling it a clip. My bad. I do know the difference though!

CLIPS are what feed almost every one of the animals I own, even those with MAGS. Sorry for any confusion, disruption, or other side effects...like loss of apetite, sudden weight loss or weight gain, heart or liver problems, or sudden death...that may have occured while reading this...

i would think the money would be better invested in something like a B-51. Its twice as precise and just as accurate as far as the shooter can see. ammunition is cheaper and more readily available. it doesn't break your shoulder, vacate your bowels, or cause temporary deafness every time you fire it.

my cousin has a barrett .50 and rents it out at the Colorado 50cal club. I went to a shoot with him a few years ago and the best thing about the .50 is when people with long hair shoot it thier hair blows out I really would like to have a picture of it.

I have a few extra bucks, LOL, and I am now looking for a toy. A ridiculous, impractical toy. I came in to a bunch of cash from former employer that ****ed up and decided a settlement was best and now, I am rifle shopping along with diesel hunting...


So i am wondering, is the Barret M82A1 worth the price over a Bushmaster .50 BMG? I fired the Barret in my military days but never a left handed bolt Bushmaster. Anyone have some experience? I can get the Bushmaster for 3200 locally, or hunt for a Barret which has an MSRP of 10 grand......

The Barret is the better choice. I used the 50 cal in my sniper days and it is the best. It will require a lot of maintenance (upkeep is not cheap) to own one if you want to shoot it professionally. The 29 inch barrel is a great weapon with range. Bushmaster is a 'pos'. I would not take one for free. I like my newest weapon I bought this year...it is a POF PDW 416 rifle. Look it up and see if you like it.
