Yesterday, I went to drop a friend off at his house out in the country. His car couldn't make it with the muddy roads, so I had to drive him back. While I was driving to get there, I went to turn a corner and I didn't go that fast and started to slide. I gained control eventually, but when I did, I noticed my fuel gauge going crazy. It would keep on bouncing around and has been like this ever since. I went back into town and made sure all the connections are tighten. Nothing wrong there and it still bounces around. I went to carquest and the guys say that it has something to do with the fuel pump. I looked online on how to replace the fuel pump. It's easy to do, but question is what do you guys think it is? If you guys have anything, I would greatly appreciate it!

Probably the sloth resister in the back of cluster( If its the 94 in your sig). If that's not it, it may be the sending unit. Now does it slowly move or is it moving quick?

Sounds like the float on your fuel pump has come lose or broke.
Also it could be the plug at the fuel pump that's lose.

Best way to get to it is to take the bad off. But,I was abole to do it from under the truck on my rig. Had a bad sending unit in a new pump and had to exchange.
I changed mine out when I did the front spring mounts years back. Dropped the tank to get to the driver side rivets.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking it is. I might take the bed off tomorrow and take a look. I like your ranger too. Gotta love 3rd gens!

Hey, here's a video that will help you a bunch.
I plan to pull my bed in the spring to fix and paint my frame. Not sure where all the crazy visor, cowl and steps came from on mine, as I bought it used, but it's unique.

Keep on trucking. Shoot me a PM if you get it figured out.

I did in fact watched all the videos last night. I know what it is, I just don't know what I should do first. But like I said, I think I might take the bed off tommorow and take a look. It might just be a loose wire or maybe the fuel pump is just shot. idk, we'll see...

Thanks a lot man. I will let you know if I got it

My credo
to prevent Found On the Road Dead, Fix Or Repair Daily
The Rat is the same color and pretty much like 94's Title says it is green. :D

I suspect a breaking connection just back of a terminal or a crappy ground. Ford wiring doesn't age well. Is yours a manual transmission? I went for a stick because, I havent had one in 25 yrs. The Rat is used 'round town on week ends. Turns out a 94 4.0 4x4 is a good example of Ranger.

Yep Mine is a stick. And I love it as a farm truck. Gets me anywhere, especially when I go to check pivots. Good farm trucks.

I think without a doubt in my mind, it could the sending unit. That's all I could think of and the only thing I know that could be bad. the pump is good, but just the sender is bad I think. If that's not it, 100 dollars will be down the drain.
