Hey Folks! Hope you are doing well.

Just wanted to give you an update on the Ranger. Since the truck is on jack stands I had to use someone else's vehicle to get my new Yokohama Geolander A/T tires put on today. They really look good on the truck, although the tread isn't as aggressive as the advertised pic made it look. Still though, I think they will be well worth it.

I also put in a new battery, but forgot to buy the shims I need for it. Power is pumping through it and it's nice to see some life in it again.

I am having an issue with the fuel system (different thread) not working right. With some detective work I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Tomorrow I'll install AVS in channel vent visors, a new steering wheel cover, Bosch Icon wiper blades.

I forgot to take pictures today, but I'll be sure to do that tomorrow.

This is my current state of affairs. Draining the tank of bad gas.

A new fuel pump assembly is coming tomorrow. New clear headlight housings, Rockford Fosgate 5 1/4 speakers, and new side mirrors are coming next week.

Later (tax time) I'm thinking of getting it painted Aegean blue metallic. It's a Honda factory color, but I love it!

It's 1:15 am so I'll make this brief.

Good news: Over a week or so, changed out spark plugs, plug wires, IAC valve, drained bad gas, put good gas in, installed new fuel pump assembly and pressure sensor, new negative battery cable, bought but not installed a 2000 Ranger gauge cluster with tachometer, new gas cap, new fuel filter, led bulbs for dome/map lights, 4 Rockford Fosgate 5.25" 2-way speakers, cleaned MAF, had 4 Yokohama Geolanders installed, and replaced bad fuses.

Bad news: After all that time, effort, miles, and money i am no closer to having it run properly. Something is wrong. Something that is well beyond my knowledge and knowhow on diagnosing and fixing. It runs...but not well. I'll have to take it in to the shop and have them fix it for me.

I've worked too hard to not see my late father's truck die. It means too much to have it running and driveable. It's the only piece of him I have left.

Is it running on all cylinders? That's the first place to start.

I dont believe so. The closest analog I can come up with is that it sounds like an old truck that hasn't been taken care of and you can hear it through the exhaust.

Going to test the coil packs today.

vertical and above ground
If you want to do it yourself, you can check fuel supply volume & pressure with a gauge, the ignition for spark using a spare plug or a timing light on each wire one at a time. A compression test would show if it is an individual cylinder with problems.
If it ran before being parked, it is likely one of the above rather than a sticking valve or bad rings. You could even have a hose loose.
Check the under side of the curvy part of the intake manifold for the evap system connection and the PCV connection. Check the PCV hose going on down the drivers side under the intake. The evap may have a plastic tube with rubber sections that has flopped loose. It's easy to knock hoses loose when fiddling.

I just tested my coil packs (Accel 4 tower PN#140018) for primary and secondary resistance. Primary was within specs, secondary was reading anywhere between 12k-12.9k where Accel lists the secondary at 11.6k.

My scan tool indicated cylinder 2 misfire.

Are they bad?

Before I get ahead of myself, the primary resistance on both coils was .3

Turns out there was a crack in one of the coils. Replaced the coils and no immediate CEL.

Now here's the rub. I have the dreaded blinking CEL. It idles rough and drives rough at low rpms. Here is the O2 readings I took. Don't know what they mean if anything.
