Im working on my 04 4.0 and I got the harmonic balancer/damper off. now I can't get it on.

I Rented the kit from advance auto to pull and install mine but the installer tool doesn't reach the threads nor does the bolt. Is there a special trick to do this.

You have the keyway lined up? a little lube on the snout? All else fails, boil the balancer for 15 minutes.

Yup, but first, I'd go back to the part numbers and double check every thing. The balancer SHOULD slip on far enough for the snout bolt to start. if the key can be popped out of the snout's slot, I'd check it by hand on the balancer's slot. The summit instructions say boil in a pot of water for 15 minutes. I assume that means after the water returns to a boil after you put the balancer in. I didn't boil at all, mine slipped on plenty far, and then tightened down with the bolt, no installer tool needed.

Get the key lined up and take mallot or somthing to tap on it all you need is a thread or two and then just pull it on with the bolt. your probably real close on my jeep I used a thin washer to pull it in a bit then put the thick washer back on to torque it down.

when i did mine on my mustang, i was told (by a mechanic) to put a large socket over the bolt hole, and give it a good solid wack with a hammer (not super hard)

I ended up putting it in the oven for a little then put it on there and hit it once and it gave me enough to get a couple threads.

Glad you got it. Lots of times you can use the green Scotch-Brite to remove the small amount of varnish buildup without any chance of removing metal. Doesn't take much to cause an interferance problem. We use that stuff for delicate control bushings and plungers.
