I've looked for answers by searching and i'm stumped... Truck seems to run fine, a little rough idle. Its a 92 4.0 high milage not sure exactly. Runs cool but started smokeing like hell. smoke is blueish gray, but is slightly black at startup. Have my pssenger mirror pointed at my exhaust and it smoke really bad sometimes and not at all others. I'm no mechanic and its my only car. I really need to make this work somehow, wife left and now im stuck with all the bills and cant afford a new motor for a litle bit. The fuel pressure reg. also was leaking back into the vacume line but my friend said just disconect it and get a new one asap... would this cause that or a ring or sumthin? gonna pull the plugs in a lil bit and tighten lower intake bolts now...

Get a new fp reg NOW. Never run your truck with it disconnected; it's dumping too much gas into your engine.

Then change your oil, as it's likely to be diluted with gas.

Black smoke on startup or quick acceleration is normal as the computer is making the mixture RICH so the engine won't bog.
Disconnectiong the regulator has made the mixture rich all the time and the rich mixture is most likely cleaning the OIL from the inside of the cylinders and making the whitish smoke..
I wouldn't drive it one foot till I replaced the fuel regulator..

thanx guys... the fpr is likr 80 bucks. gotta wait till fri... but i'm borrowing my friends car till then. My friend who is supposed to be a mechanic is kind of an idiot. hahaha. he had me worried my truck was done for. Changed the oil last night and found the lower intake bolts were pretty loose. Wont drive it til payday and i get the regulator.
