17 BTDC is about right in the sweet spot for most Fords, a tad high, but about right where it should be.. Did you remove the slack from the accellerator pump linkage ?My timing is at 17 degrees how much more should I go
Can also use a timing light and watch the timing marks and race the motor up timing should increase. If you have a vacuum advance distributor, is the vacuum diaphram working ? You can test it simply by sucking on the hose and watching for the movement in the breaker plate.
Nope. The timing will move due to the centrifugal advance, just not as quickly as with the vacuum assist. I had the pod go bad on the Ranger a few years ago and it plain sucked, had a bad hesitation. Can also use a timing light and watch the timing marks and race the motor up timing should increase.
try using the lightest springs (small silver ones) rev motor to 3000 and set timing at 33 and lock it down. Then chech at idle. You still need a bigger discharge nozzle to get rid of hesitation. The msd distributor came with a set of advance springs of different rates but I changed them a few times and it didn't seem to make a difference
