I watched the movie for the first time in years last night and got to looking up the Explorers after I noticed some weird things with them and I came across this:

The seats and the weird flat tan in the doors, and how they drove with no drivers was what I was curious about.

And yes, they were gas powered with a driver in the cargo area which is what I was curious about. Flat tan was to reduce camera glare. Seats were cut down base model seats.

Indeed, there were a lot of unusual things with the Jurassic Park movie variant of the Ford Explorer. However, I have to hand it to the movie producers, they sure know how to pick high-quality mud tires and wheels for it. Especially since most of the movie takes place in a jungle terrain.

They were just painted stock wheels and bfg AT's. Overkill for a slot car.

Buy yeah, they did their homework on the cars.

I honestly thought they just build a short track system to pull the Explorer along. Didn't think too much about it.

8-9yo me figured they were big slot cars.

Watching the movie knowing they are driven by people makes you appreciate the drivers. When they roll up infront of the lodge they maintain speed vs each other perfectly and stop in synchronization perfectly.

This is why I thought they were pulled on the track, like a car wash but with a bar and not a belt.

I dont know how true it is, but I was told by a friend who worked for George Barris they built those exploders. He told me some things about them there were like 10 of them built to do different things to my understanding.

There is one running around here. Probably one someone here built but still cool. Makes me smile everytime I see it.
