The axle is certainly the biggest issue here...but the thing that really pisses me off is the insurance issue. He rearended you, his insurance should be handling all of this and paying your rental. Unfortunately, it usually requires sueing either him or the insurance company, which usually results in a win, but its still a pain in the ass.

As far as all the backordering, Chrysler does the same crap, and we're actually dealling with a similar issue on a BMW at my shop right now. And don't ever try to order a wiring harness for a Mercedes, you'll be waiting 6 months for them to hand make it.

It’s technically not his truck. Lease may dictate how it is repaired.
technically right, but the majority of body shops and insurance companies do it however they want basically. The collision industry goes pretty unchecked unless the customer decides to actually have a post repair inspection done by an independent inspector (not someone working for the insurance company).

Heres fords statement on parts useage:

And one more thing, when all of this is said and done, make sure you make a diminished value claim! You will likely get a check for at least a few thousand for the loss of value on the vehicle, depending on the size of the repair, which I would imagine is close to 10k. Even though it is a lease it is still owed.

If that's the case, isn't it the dealers problem. Just get a replacement truck to fulfill the lease agreement.
It doesn't usually work that way.

Usually not, but this seems to be an issue that is out of his hands. Insurance knows how to screw the little guy but if a bigger entity is handling it, shit gets done a lot faster. I don't know who gets paid in a lease agreement, but I'm sure they're still gonna want a payment every month. And now he has to make that payment on a truck that is not his AND he cant drive it? Raise enough hell and something will happen.

It also depends on how the lease is written and structured. Is it leased directly through FMC, or is there a third party leasing agency involved? If the lease is through Ford or the dealership then yes, there would be a good chance of being able to get a different truck to fulfill the lease agreement, and if the backorder goes on long enough there may even be grounds for a breach of contract lawsuit.

If there is a third party agency involved they own the truck, and they would need to be the ones to raise that stink, but probably won't as long as they are getting their payments.

Like I said. I have NO idea how leases work. But the loudest wheel always gets fixed first. I would be raising all kinds of hell to whoever needs it, if you want your payment, I want a truck.

Yes, it's leased through Ford.

As far as the squeaky wheel getting the grease... I'm in the process of making all my DAILY phone calls right now. I call Ford Customer Service, Ford credit, Freehold Ford, my insurance company, and the body shop everyday.

I'd be adding his insurance and the kid who hit you to that list.

If they would at least offer me a loaner until the truck is done, I wouldn't care if it sat for 6 months.

And social media outlets. ( FaceBook, IG, Twitter) They hate that shit. Nobody wants a bad YELP review.

The parts manager at the dealer texted me today (Yes, we've been in contact enough that I have his personal cell #.) with a copy of a letter from Ford. It states "The supplier is waiting on components. The ETA is TBD. Unfortunately we are unable to pull from production or expedite from the supplier."

That's always a fun letter.

I might start trying to pursue the "well give me a different truck" avenue now.

I going to the body shop on Monday to remove my personal items. Then to my lawyer. 66 days is long enough.
