Ok guys, I did a 4.0 swap awhile ago and I've been using the FM146 behind my 4.0 it held up fine but now I got a transmission to replace it with, a Toyo Koygo 5 speed, that came from a 4.0 explorer now, I know there a length difference between the FM and Toyo of like 2-3 inches, so my ideas are the following (P.S. a M50D-R1 4x4 version nearly IMPOSSIBLE to come by where I live) SO idea 1) find a ranger with the same transmission and wheel base and take the drive shaft 2) I've wanted to do a Chevy leaf spring swap for the lift and springs, so if i did that and moved the front shackles would that compensate for the distance of space needed for the drive shaft or would I need to move all four shackles to compensate for it? 3) Am i just crazy?

I would like to see pictures of this "TK5" that came from an Explorer since the production years for the TK5 and Explorer are seperated by about 5 years of dead space.

I got the transmission out of a ford explorer control trac 4wd 1991 eddie bauer 4.0 ohv Toyo-Kogyo 5 speed... was the toyo kogyo ever put behind the 4.0? The trans code came up T when i looked it ip it was 1992+ model T were automatic a4ld ones. But nothing for the T code for 1991 manual of before 92+ the explore was stock manual so i know it was not a automatic.

The TK was never used with a 4.0 from factory.

The 4.0 only ever got the M5OD as a manual trans. Both were made by Mazda, but they are not the same transmission. It this tranny has a 1-piece case, no removable bell housing, and no pan on the bottom it is an M5OD.

The fm146 and M50D are the same length and the toyo is shorter, I believe this is a toyo, I had to move cross member and lengthen my drive shaft. Ill post picture when i can, is this odd?

The orange one a FM146 what do you think the silver one is? I pulled it off a 4.0 1991 Eddie Bauer edition 4wd explore.
