Anyone here rebuilt a 4R55e?

I have a 1996 Ranger 2wd super cab with 4.0L v6 and original transmission that has never been touched. It has 185,000 miles on it and is leaking fluid from the bell housing. I suspect it is the pump. The leak is getting worse so I know it will have to be addressed. My question is how feasible is it to rebuild this transmission? It still runs fine despite the leak and shifts fine. I have rebuild engines before but not transmissions. Would it cost more in special tools than it is worth or am I being paranoid about how much this would cost? Just curious pricewise how much this would cost total if I did it myself right. I have found on the forum about using a solenoid upgrade and shift improver kits but don't know if this is something I can tackle or not with the correct time, tools and documentation.
