Got my heads back from the machine shop, and am excited to get this engine back together. Among other things, the heads were decked, I'm not sure how much. I did a test fit without bolts and noticed a much wider gap between the heads and the lower intake than I was expecting. Is this gap too much? Or does getting it all torqued down to spec squeeze the mating surfaces together? That lower intake gasket also seems like there's a lot of opportunity for trouble if it doesn't seat just right.

Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!
GREAT! thank you!
Your machinist should have asked for the lower intake manifold also. Dispite needing to fit, any time I've done heads on these, the machinist kept a grip of Al from the lower intake manifold port job.
