M5OD-R2 and BW1356 info? (edited title)
trying to plan out a stronger engine for the '97, the 2.3 (as good as it's been to me) just doesn't make quite enough torque down low as I'm finding that I need. And it'll be going under a few other alterations at the same time.
I"m going 4wd. I'd really like a 5 speed manual. I really want to keep it Ford through and through. I also have a fancy Ford shop manual for it, and I'd like to keep the most Ranger parts on here as possible, but I'm not in the t-case that much and other driveline stuff so it's not that big of an issue (I can get other shop manals too). And finally, I'm not sure how easily the 1356? would fit between the frame rails.
so it seems like the M5OD-R2 would be a decent choise, I'm wondering if a 1354 would bolt up to it? (without tooooo many mods). And will the splines fit? And how different externally is it from the M5OD-R1? (I know there's a shifter location difference somewhere but I don't know what years. Or if they're even close to the same in the first place)
I'll tackle the other issues like bellhousing bolt patterns and clutch splines and all that other stuff a bit later.
I have a strong feeling this has been asked before and I'd search for it but well... yeah..
