Okay, so today, I replaced my battery connectors, and cables, in hopes it would have helped my problem.

When I drive and sometimes idle, the Volts meeter is all the way up, with my battery light on. Battery is getting PLENTY of juice. 17+ amps when running (even with lights, heater, everything) and 14+ amps when truck is off.

Why would it be charging so much? Do I need a new alternator?

yes, you need to check the wires going into the alternator to make sure they are not shorting out. if they are ok, replace the alternator

So the only problem is the battery light is on? Correct?

And that the volts meeter on the dash is all the way up, and the dashlights, headlights, and everything is WAY brighter.

Parts stores like Autozone and Advance auto will check your alternator for free. I would have to say your alternator is bad as well. 9 out of 10 when they break it's by not charging but they do sometimes overcharge. Your light will come on if it is not working in the desired range, that means to low or to high. Also in my town we have a guy that has his own business rebuilding alternators, starters, and stuff. He usually is about half price of a new one or even less because he fixes what is wrong by replacing the bad part so your not spending your money buying a whole new alternator. Check if you have anything like that in your town?



I just thought as also the voltage regulator could be going South as well? But the testers at the parts stores will be able to test that as well because it is mounted on the back of your alternator.

Off your info I see you are from Grapeview and I went to yellowpages.com and right here http://www.yellowpages.com/Grapeview-WA/Alternators-Generators-Automotive?expansion_factor=1&sort=distance there is a few places that are around 30 miles away. If that distance is worth half the price or more to you maybe it is worth a shot? I would first have the alternator tested if there is a nearby store just to make sure before you go and waste a trip.

Your voltage regulator is shot. Just pull a whole alternator from the junkyard. There are lots of Rangers of this era in junkyards, and it takes all of 10 minutes to pull the alternator. You can be up and running in an afternoon with a $20-30 investment.

Or at least a working spare to get the original repaired.........

I bought a rebuild kit on-line for mine and it cost me under $55 for everything.
