I hope I posted this in the correct forum
I got my 95 Ranger smog tested here in California. It passed with out any problems.
The smog test guy told me that Ford products are failing FOUR time more frequently than those from GM, Chrysler, and all the imports. This is due to the new pressurizing (3-4lbs) of the fuel tank test to see if there are leaks in the evaporative emissions system.
Last year, for the third time I replaced the defective fuel filler hose (The most common cause on the Ranger/Explorer for failer he said) , I also replaced all the rubber hoses between the tank and the evp canister too. There is a special hose from the canister to the evap soleniod thats 3/8" with a 90 degree bend into a 1/4" that Ford doesnt sell anymore. I made one up from a 3/8 to 1/4 nipple I found in the "Help" section at my local parts house. This is the one that rots out first.
The smog guy also told me thqt there is an aftermarket fuel filler hose, but it has problems when you try to fill your tank up.
I found these two items by googling
