Mystery (unplugged) wiring harness near transfer case ('88 BII)...?

I wanted to post this separate from my build thread. Mind you I've only doing some preliminary investigation but I'm confuzzled (confused + puzzled) by what exactly this harness is supposed to be plugged into...?

Driver's side, I found lying between the frame rail and transfer case, I re-positioned it so it's easily visible in the photo. Checking the Chilton manual it appears that the wiring harness(es) for the transfer case are where they should be and plugged in, and as far as I know the 4WD works and there's no codes, etc. that I'm seeing...

With the body lift I can see all around the transfer case and the area this harness terminates pretty well but that's definitely not to say I haven't missed something...which may be gratuitously obvious!

Mine has one going to the rear of the transfer case, right beside, or below the speedo cable

Thank you VERY much @Josh B, I appreciate it Sir! I just got done wrestling with it today (rear shocks) and I'll give that a looky-loo tomorrow. No idea what that does from looking at the service manual but if it's unplugged...it needs to be plugged back in!

Doesn't look like its ever been plugged in

The plug in on speedo cable is the VSS, 2 wire, yours looks to be plugged in, has the Ziptie on it

Do both of you have electric shift tcases?

It might be the wire they use to light up the indicator lights on the dash if you had manual shift.

Total guess though.

I’m gonna have to try looking at mine, don’t know if I can get to that today or not. We shall see.

@Peter Griffin , that one that @Josh B mentions appears to be plugged in on yours, so I’m not sure what that plug that’s loose on yours is.

It is a different plug but I don't know where it would go. If yours has a red wire and a black wire I would suppose same wires/different plug type, mine goes in beside the speedo cable.
There is also another plug that is locked in by a bolted on z-clip type thing which apparently goes into the TC. Then there is the largest one that's in the circular socket with numerous wires which go to 2 wd/ 4Hi/ 4Low and possibly their indicator panel on the dash

Seems on mine they only go two places, to the transfer case output (Speedometer cable & Red wire/black wire plug) in TC Output and the one beside it that's bolted in by Z-clip, or to the transfer case shift motor (Very bottom of photo)

I don't see where your plug could go to, it is likely as RonD supposed it maybe isn't used. Could yours be a newer model TC than the truck? 88 to 93 could also be different due to different series
