Need clutch

hey all - interesting thread. I think I need a clutch replacement. One shop says get a LUK clutch package. Another says they use Power Torque and it's just as good. Any thoughts?

LUK has been a reliable go to for years. I don't know about the other brand. LUK is who I went with when my OEM one failed.

By the way, reviving an old thread that doesn't follow the topic is considered bad form. If you can't find a thread covering what you would like to know, it's better to start a new thread.

I've used Luk and Sachs. Both with good results.

Only clutch that sucked was ironically Centerforce. Maybe I didnt break it in right though, this was back when I was a punk kid.

I didn't have good luck with my luk. It had hardly any miles on it but it did have a lot of sit time. I'm not knocking them, If I had a stock ish truck, Id run a luk all day. But for my ranger I went with a center force. Been very happy with it. It is a better built clutch. But it was twice the money as the luk. But locked, lifted and on 37s is hard on things. haha

No complaint for LUK clutches

I would recommend the Self Adjusting Pressure plate(SAC) for Rangers, only a few dollars more but way better with new clutch disc and the Bleeding issues in this system

Same here. Not impressed with Centerforce. Mine barely last 3k miles before I started having problems.

I went with this one. I just put it in a drove it. I didn't do anything break in procedure. I was in a rush to do my engine swap so I just went for it. Took it wheeling a few days getting it back together. I've had a good experience with it.

This is the only one that shows up on there site now for my 4.0 OHV. The shop installed a LUK and has never had issues. I will say it is crazy smooth now. I almost thought they forgot to bleed it because when I stepped on the pedal, it dropped straight to the floor. It stiffened up just a hair after 250 miles, but it is about 3-4 times easier to depress than the Centerforce or the one it had when I bought it.

I am selling the Centerforce I had in mine if you want to give it a try.

That reminded me this is the one I had that burned out prematurely. It was the dual friction. I was bummed.

Watch out for any clutch disc that mentions "Racing", these use a softer friction material for better gripping when hot, but wear out much much faster

Another vote for Luk.
I've seen (heard) some others squeal and howl when starting off from a stop (Sachs I think, just by looking at the design of the PP). Luk is who originally made the OEM clutches.
