im buying a 1996 ranger 4x4 super cab with the 4.0 in it. the truck is owened by a girl i know, she has put a new motor in it along with abunch of other parts so its like new, never on the trail just dailt driven. what are the falts in this year of rig? im putting a manual t-case in ,putting in my explorer 8.8 from my 88 in their and a drive line from an 98 ranger. so thats the stuff i know of. i know the 4.0 is a bad motor but is their any thing not good about them? thanks mike.

The 4.0's are good engines.

I had a '97 (which is the same thing only a year newer) and I loved it.

The front axle from a '98 will NOT fit in a '96. The '96 has the TTB like your '88 has.
