Just saying hi and getting started on this forum. Just purchased an 86 4x4 with 2.9L auto, just a good ol truck to play and hunt with but amazingly almost everything works on this truck. It started its life as an XLT and in 86 that was top of the line. The truck runs decent and I am doing the normal maintenance after getting an old truck like this; oil change; plugs; wires, etc. If there are any tips out there I love getting info about it. This is not my first Ranger but it is the first auto tranny 4x4. I will be getting the tranny inspected with a fluid/filter change, just hope it is not on its last leg. from everything I read if this A4LD is not maintained properly then they go out and need rebuild or replacement but the rebuilds can be very strong, used for racing if done right. Keeping fingers crossed I get a few years before changing for a rebuilt unit. Would be willing to go as far as San Antonio for any recommended transmission shops. Thanks and I hoped everyone is doing good
