Got a little stupid over the weekend and found out the body off of my electric 67 stang fits on my nitro volcano s30. Begin phase one of Mustang 4x4!

Test fitting:

Decided a proper mustang needs a working hood scoop for those straight aways, so I fashioned one out of body filler. Had to take a large chunk out of the hood due to the fake cowl running the length of it

Tell me what you think! :icon_thumby:

Looks sweet! Do the tires rub on the body at all?

What is the body material? If it isn't flexible don't drive it hard enough to roll it, it'll crack easy.

After a test run, the tires rub quite a bit on the back of the front fenders, so I had to grind them down with a dremel. Now I have plenty of clearance on both sides for when I need to do a sharp turn.

As for the body material I believe it's some sort of ABS plastic but dont hold me to that since I'm mainly guessing. This body is mainly for straight away heads up racing with my friends. And I'm not sure if its the aerodynamics of the new body or the cooling action of the scoop, but it seemed a bit more lively with the mustang body on than the original

I was planning on uploading a video of it in action, but there was a slight issue. By slight I mean I managed to roll it down a 6 foot bank and floated upside down in a pond. Why did I do this? Upon inspection one of the contacts inside of the steering servo had broken and it would only turn one way and only when it wanted to. After resoldering it on and cleaning all of the water out of the carb and the exhaust (none made it to the engine somehow) and letting it sit over night, I cranked it right up and drove it for a while. Then all hell broke loose. It had stopped responding all together no matter what I did, so I figured the receiver had gotten fried and just died on me. As I was taking the body off of it to kill the power and the engine, it went WOT and ran into the garage door and flipped over. It was running rich anyway so it flooded and died, but it still scared the crap out of me. I have a failsafe and a new receiver about ordered and I'm debating a new filter that I would mount inside of the scoop on the mustang body and run an airline to the carb from it. Suggestions while I'm ordering parts?

Also, the truck body was on so the stang is still in one piece

I have a failsafe .... ordered
:icon_thumby: I run failsafes (Futaba) on all my Nitro cars. I wont fire any of them up without testing it first. (I've got 9 or 10 of them.)

Mixed:

1/8 scale monster trucks:
- Kyosho Mad Force
- Kyosho Mad Armour
- XTM X-Factor

1/8 Scale Buggies/Truggies:
- 3 Kyosho MP7.5s (all originally Kanai 3s)
-- 1 all aluminum and titanium.
-- 1 converted to truggy, (will eventually be converted to brushless electric)
-- 1 race ready
- 1 XTM X2

On-Road:
- Yokomo gt-4

Maybe its only 8, I may have more, I cant remember. :icon_rofl:

The biggest problem is I cant leave anything alone. Everyone of them is upgraded to the point of, well, er, um... I dont want my wife to know how much I spent on any one of them!

Haha, I'll keep that in mind. I've been trying to re-paint the hood put none of the rattle cans seem to want to stick to this material, so hand painting it is!

I'm looking forward to seeing that build btw. Sounds like it'll be quite a looker :icon_thumby:

Ive never had a failsafe and never had a runaway. Used to race the rc pro series also btw so there would literally be hundreds of people showing up to race. Your better off with a nice throttle return spring.

It wasn't as much an issue that it wouldn't go back to idle, it was more of an issue of a water-logged reciever. But that thing has already saved my butt from needing to go out and get the darn thing when it gets out on the edge of my transmitter's range. Maybe I should actually run the antenna outside of the body...:icon_twisted:

you really should be running 2.4ghz. if the RX fails, the battery dies on the car,or you have a servo fail, nothing will help. everyday i get customers bring me cars that are smashed and they tell me it took off. most of the time its RX problems but now and then i get people who didnt charge there RX pack or change the AA

if it happens again try the rice trick, let the electronics sit in uncooked rice overnight. it pulls out the water.
