This past winter I was stuck in my back plowed in and was switching between drive and reverse. The drive went (with no sound ) I had no forward or reverse. The trucks stayed running. I then shut it off when to work and when I came home and tried to start it alls I got was grinding. What kind of issues am I looking at here, is the torque converter froze?

Sounds like a busted flex plate. Be sure to replace the spacer, they usually cause the flex plate to break.

What a broken flex plate cause the truck not to go in reverse or drive? I should also mention that when I was reading it I heard a rattling vibration before drive and reverse went out .

The flex plate is what connects the crankshaft of the engine to the torque converter on the trans. It is also what the starter grabs to crank the engine. If it breaks while the engine is running you can loose all gears and the ability to restart the engine.

A broken flex plate also tends to make a rattling noise when it goes.

It's not hard, just time consuming.
